Secondary school teachers can apply for the Straight to Residence (STR) Visa in May 2024

By Bradley So

Immigration New Zealand have announced that as of May 2024, eligible overseas secondary school teachers will be able to apply for the Straight to Residence (STR) Visa.

The STR Visa will now allow them to apply for residence while offshore if they have an offer of employment with an accredited employer. This will need to pay the median wage of $31.61 per hour.

Secondary school teachers who are already working in New Zealand and meet the eligibility criteria can also apply for the STR Visa.

To apply you will also need to prove that you are of good health and of good character. You will need to provide documentation to prove that you meet all of Immigration New Zealand's requirements. To assess your eligibility, please contact us: immigrationteam@qcl.co.nz

It is important to note that this change only applies to secondary school teachers. Other education roles will continue to follow the Green List Work to Residence pathway.
